Patriot Day

We remember our fellow Americans who lost their lives 7 years ago today in the attacks of September 11. God bless America, those currently fighting and those who have lost their lives over the course of 231 years for freedom.

Thank You!

Sun Star needs to go away

All they have to write is negative articles about Merced. Why can't they write stuff we would love to read about, like our school children having a grand old time completing their work. I am going to get me a subsciption to Merced County Times! http://www.midvalleypublications.com

One Year Later

WOW! Its hard to believe. MeetMerced.com is one year old today. Sure there was a time there when MeetMerced was accessible before August 27th, 2007, but it wasn't until then that we were officially launched. We've has some success this past year with the helping of the Kiddieland train campaign, etc., but we have a long way to go.

We took a little break for a few months, but we are back and will be posting as much as possible. We hope you do too!

We look forward to serving as the community blog of choice. Join us today.

Side note... Greater Merced Kiwanis wants the community to know that Kiddieland is temporarily closed pending some paperwork being filed with the State of California. It will be open again soon.

Thanks,
MeetMerced.com Staff

Rural Merced affected by foreclosures too!

By EVELYN NIEVES, Associated Press Writer

MERCED, Calif. - The end came in a blink outside the Merced County courthouse.

Only six people showed up for the foreclosure auction, Janice Pimentel and her son Nick included. By chance, the Pimentels' dairy farm was the first property offered.

The auctioneer, a young man in aviator sunglasses and blue jeans, read their address and paused for bids. When none came, the Joe T and Janice R Pimentel Dairy Farm, 21 years in the life of the family, officially became the property of its main creditor, a local lender.

Progress?

We talk a lot about progress on this website. Our parent company, Sunny Day Online, has a motto that is Always Mooving Forward. MeetMerced.com is always trying to find ways to be on the leading edge of the grassroots movement to make Merced a better place to live, work, and play. This is all good, but Merced seems to be stuck in rut.

Atwater Baseball Again?

That's right, we could be looking at the return of Baseball to Firemen's Memorial Field in Atwater. I remember attending games of the minor league team that was there back in the mid '90s. What fun it was and it was not even that far away. The big water tower in the background just made the entire experience so surreal.

Today is History

Today is history for Merced County and its residents. Merced County annexed more than 4000 acres of land from Fresno County in the Dos Palos area. The annexation brings with it 400 residents and 6.5 square miles of prime ag land.

This addition is good for Merced and its history because Merced County hasn't grown geographically since 1887. That is 121 years for those that want the math done for them.

I want to congratulate the people involved in this land deal and welcome our new Merced County residents to Merced.

Thanks,
Shady
